Farm Share/ CSA Program

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a Farm Share?

Our Farm Share is a form of Community Supported Agriculture.  By subscribing, you become a stakeholder in our farm.  Your enrollment provides the help we need when we need it most.  In return, you receive a weekly supply of produce straight from the farm for 20 weeks.  You become part of our farm community, and have the opportunity to get to know the people who grow your food.

What do you grow?

We grow everything from arugula to zucchini!  We’re always experimenting, so you’ll have the opportunity to try some things that might be new to you.  We are especially strong in Italian varieties of vegetables (especially eggplant and tomatoes), watermelon (three different varieties), and greens, including chard, kale, and head lettuce.

Are there vegetables you DON’T grow?

We don’t grow corn because it’s a heavy feeder for our relatively compact farm.  We grow most of our broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower as fall crops, because the weather has been more dependably cool than it has been in the spring.

What can I expect on a weekly basis?

A typical share in July might include Romaine lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, patty pan squash, garlic, carrots, and a watermelon.  A share in October includes kale, pumpkins, winter squash, beets, mustard greens, snow peas, and lettuce.

I’m moving in August.  Do you pro-rate shares?

We’d like to have you as part of our farm community for as long as possible.  That said, we understand that life offers different opportunities at times, especially for our military families.  Although it is not our preference, we will pro-rate shares with notice at the time of enrollment and with a minimum ten-week commitment.

Is my pick-up spot always the same place and time?

Yes.  When you sign up, please consider your preferred pick-up location carefully!  As growers, we work within really tight parameters, and we need to keep the system running consistently for everyone’s benefit. If there's an occasion (vacation or other extenuating circumstance) where you can't make it to your designated pickup location during the 4-6 pm time frame, please send a friend to pick up your share.  Think how grateful they’ll be!

We hope these answers encourage you to join our Farm Share this year.  Should you have any additional questions, we hope you’ll call Jim at 401.256.3600 or email us at garmanfarmri@gmail.com
